Deerest is a piece that was created primarily for the Creatives in Color show in Indianapolis, Indiana. The theme of the show was Fellowship. Fellowship for me immediately made me think about religion. Any religion that has a following can feel like fellowship. Whether it be for good or bad causes.
Living in the midwest is a liminal feeling. Although mostly conservative, there are pockets if progressive cities like Indianapolis. For this piece I wanted to show the feeling of home. Fellowship to me (outside of religion) feels like home. The people, places, and culture create a sense of belonging.
But what if you are not originally from this land we call home? Immigrants uplift their roots to find a better ground to thrive. You create the home wherever you go.
