There’s a beauty in being born. But the suffering of the mother through childbirth is often overlooked. The suffering of the mother is taken for granted and we grow to believe that our bodies are not ours. The discourse surrounding abortion reduces women’s bodies as being the vessel for another being. A child’s life is celebrated and is valued more than the life of the mother. To die in childbirth is holy. To live as a woman is a sin. We are expected to sacrifice our autonomy, our dignity, and potentially our life for good of another.
